Abid Ali, Pakistan’s Test opener, has made a name for himself in Test cricket since making his debut in the longest format in 2019. Since his debut two years ago, the gritty opener has scored the most runs by a Pakistani batter and the joint-most centuries by a Pakistani batter.
Abid scored his fourth century of the season in the first innings of the first Test against Bangladesh and is currently playing a solid knock in the second innings.
In 15* matches, the 34-year-old has scored 1,070 runs at an average of 48.63. Since his debut in 2019, he has amassed the third-most runs. Only the Sri Lankan captain, Dimuth Karunaratne, and the English captain, Joe Root, have scored more runs than Abid during this time.
Abid has also scored four centuries in his Test career, the most by any Pakistani batter since his debut. Fawad Alam, Pakistan’s veteran middle-order batter, is the only other batter to have scored four centuries in the same time period.
In his short career, the Test opener has four centuries, four half-centuries, and one double century. In the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh, he will be looking to add another 50+ score to his tally and lead Pakistan to victory.
