Azhar Ali, Pakistan’s middle-order batsman, continued his impressive run on Friday, scoring a superb double century against Leicestershire in the ongoing County Championship in England.

On the second day of the match, the Worcestershire senior batsman hammered an unbeaten 202 off 329 balls with 18 fours and a six to help Worcestershire give Leicestershire a 308-run lead in the first innings.

The top-order batsman struggled at the start of the season, reaching double digits only thrice, but he halted a run of low scores with a brilliant effort against Durham and Derbyshire later in the season. He didn’t make it past 100 on each occasion.

Azhar and Jack Haynes stitched a 281-run partnership for the third wicket on the second day of the ongoing match, which is also a record partnership for any wicket against Leicestershire. In 1934, they also beat out Searle Walters and HIV ‘Doc’ Gibbons’ 278 on New Road.

After Shah Masood, Azhar Ali became the second Pakistani batter to score a double century in the present county competition. Shan Masood made two double century for Derbyshire earlier this season and is the leading run-scorer in the 2022 season.

During Australia’s tour to Pakistan, the right-handed batsman, who is the only visiting opener to get a double-hundred at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, also struck 185 runs in the second innings to assist Pakistan to a massive 476-4 in the Rawalpindi Test.

Azhar Ali has played 94 Test matches for Pakistan, scoring 7,021 runs at an average of 43.07, with 19 hundred and 35 half-centuries. He’s also the first batter to hit a triple hundred with a pink ball, a double hundred with a red ball, and a hundred with a white ball.
