
Babar Azam, Pakistan’s all-format captain, reached yet another milestone on Sunday. He surpassed flamboyant West Indian star Chris Gayle as the fastest player to score 7,000 runs in T20 cricket. Babar reached the milestone during Central Punjab’s National T20 Cup match against Southern Punjab.

When he went onto the crease yesterday, he was only four runs short from reaching the century mark. Babar surpassed Gayle’s 7,000-run mark, which he reached in his 192nd inning. In the 189th inning, Babar Azam attained the milestone.
Babar was three innings shy of Chris Gayle’s record when he reached 6,000 runs earlier this year. In just 22 innings since then, he has added another 1,000 runs to his total T20 runs record. In T20Is, he has 2,204 runs out of 7,000. He even broke Virat Kohli’s record for the fastest player to get a century in April of this year. Babar scored 2,000 runs in 52 innings, while Kohli, who was the previous fastest to do so, did so in 56 innings.
The Pakistani captain became the 11th player in T20I history to reach 2,000 runs.Babar scored his sixth T20 century last week, making him the Pakistani batsman with the most T20 hundreds. Among all the top batsmen in the world, Babar Azam has the best ratio of 50s/innings in T20 cricket, with 64 runs of 50 or more from 186 innings.
