Babar Azam Set to Break Virat Kohli’s T20I Batting Record

Pakistan’s all-format captain, Babar Azam, is going to play for 2000 T20Is in the fastest and eleventh position in the world as his side picks up Zimbabwe on the T20I tripod series from the Harare Sports Club beginning on April 21.

This is a great shape for the right-hand Lahore-born batsmann, who hit his maiden T20I hundred in Pakistan’s nine-wicket win over South Africa in the SuperSport Park’s third T20I on 14 April. For his 210 runs at 52.50 in the four-match series he also won the Player of the Series award.

Babar, the number one ICC ODI player last week, needs 60 more runs to break India’s Virat Kohli record, with the fastest possible record of 2000 T20I runs achieved by the Indian captain in a total of 56 innings. On Wednesday, Babar, who scored 1940 runs at 48.50 per 49 innings at the first T20I against Zimbabwe, will look forward to the feat.

Since last year’s series against Bangladesh, Babar’s captaincy has improved steadily. Green Men have won four T20I series (Bangladesh 2-0, South Africa 3-0 and 2-1 at home, and South Africa 3-1 away) in addition to the England draw of 1-1. A single T20I series has still to be lost.
