Emma Raducanu defeats Maria Sakkari and qualifies to the Grand Slam final

Emma Raducanu, 18, was the first person in the United Kingdom to ever reach the Grand Slam Final, defeating Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-4 in the US Open on Thursday.

In 2004, when 17-year-old Maria Sharapova wins Wimbledon, Raducanu, 150th, was the youngest Grand Slam finisher.

She has taken on the 19-year-old Canadian Leylah Fernandez for Saturday’s US open finale in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

This is the first time the Slam final has been held in the U.S. Open since Williams, age 17, beat 18-year-old Martina Hingis at the 1999 U.S. Open (since 1968).
