Ian Bishop, a former West Indian cricketer who now works as a commentator, has complimented Pakistan captain Babar Azam, suggesting that he will be the best white-ball cricketer of all time, especially in the 50-overs format.
“Babar Azam is on the road to greatness,” Bishop stated in an exclusive interview with Cricwick. And when I say on the way to it, I mean in white-ball cricket at the very least, and certainly in 50-overs cricket.”
Babar has been the number one batter in ODI cricket since dethroning Virat Kohli, and he is the only player in the top four in all formats.
Babar is one of the finest cricketers of the future, according to the former pacer, and he believes that he will enhance his red-ball skills because he is a technically and temperamentally brilliant player.
“So, in the future, I’m hoping that he’ll be discussed in the same sentence as the top three or four players in Test cricket, but as a white-ball player, particularly in ODIs, he’ll be remembered as the most aesthetically pleasing batsman in the world today.”
Babar hasn’t been very impressive in tests, but one of his innings was chosen as the finest batting performance in the ICC World Test Championship 2021–2023, indicating that he’s been improving his talents in the longer format.
Bishop praised Babar’s cover and straight drives, stating that he usually watches how fellow commentators laud him on social media whenever he plays.
“Every time he comes out to bat, I have a few pundit colleagues, and whenever he hits a cover drive or a straight drive, I just look for their tweets on social media.” When individuals who have played the game come to watch you bat, that says a lot,” he said.
