
The two-time champions of the Pakistan Super League, Islamabad United, have created history as the first team to win eight matches in the PSL groups. Formerly, Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United held the record for most group victories. In PSL 2018 and PSL 2019 respectively, they had recorded seven wins.
Islamabad began their campaign with two successive victories, defeating Multan Sultans with three wickets in the first match, and in the second match, chasing a 197 target against Karachi Kings.

Peshawar Zalmi defeated United in their third tournament match, as Zalmi’s clinical performance helped him bind the opposition to 118 before chasing the goal by six hands.
The fourth match against the Gladiators was Islamabad, because it won the match by six wickets comfortably. This was their last match before the tournament was delayed and the second phase was moved to Abu Dhabi.
Upon the second tournament defeat, United’s Abu Dhabi leg started as 5 wickets lost them to Lahore Qalandars. On the last ball of the match, Lahore chased down the 144 target.
After their fifth tournament match Islamabad hit the top of its form, winning its next five matches and once defeating the franchises.

In its ninth campaign match, Islamabad’s best performance was against Peshawar Zalmi. Islamabad made some changes after already reserving their place in the PSL playoffs, with Australian batman Usman Kawaja first being named the team’s captain. Islamabad scored 247 rounds, the highest score of PSL history, and any Pakistani national side scored the highest T20, with Khawaja scored for a splendid century.
The next meeting of Islamabad in the Qualifier that is currently underway is against Multan Sultans. They will hopefully carry on their red hot shape and take their third place in the PSL final.
