
On September 9, South Africa named its 15-member ICC T20 World Cup squad for 2021. The Proteas will be led by Temba Bavuma, who has recovered from a thumb injury, in the ICC T20 World Cup.
Also-rounder Chris Morris, former captain Faf du Plessis, and leg-spinner Imran Tahir were all left out of the squad.
Left-arm leg spinner Keshav Maharaj will make his ICC T20 World Cup debut. In Colombo, he played his debut T20I against Sri Lanka.

During the Proteas’ journey to Sri Lanka in September, Maharaj led the team in the absence of Bavuma.
On October 23, the Proteas will play Australia in their first match of the competition.They are in Super12 Group 1 with Australia, England, the West Indies, and two Round One qualifying teams.
