On Sunday, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi combined for a 10-wicket thrashing of India, giving Pakistan their first-ever T20 World Cup victory over India.
The victory not only gave Pakistan a winning start to their World Cup campaign, but it also ended a 29-year jinx in which Pakistan had lost 12 World Cup matches to India in the 50- and 20-over formats.
As Pakistan celebrated its historic victory, Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK) erupted with fireworks and chants of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ to commemorate the Green Shirts’s thumping victory over India.
Despite curfew-like conditions, army patrols, and bone-chilling cold, people in the occupied valley took to the streets with Pakistani flags in their hands to celebrate the crushing win over the archrivals with equal zeal.
On the streets of IOJK, chants such as ‘long live Pakistan,’ ‘we are Pakistan, Pakistan is ours,’ and ‘Jeevay Jevay Pakistan’ rang out.
These celebrations, on the other hand, enraged the people of India, who demanded that their government take action against ‘traitors’ who rejoiced over ‘enemies’ victory.
The fervor and enthusiasm of the people of IOJK for Pakistan’s victory over India is a clear indication of their devotion to Pakistan.
