Players Asked to Limit Social Media Use During T20 World Cup

To avoid any interactions with bookies during the next T20 World Cup, the national cricket team’s administration has instructed players to limit their usage of social media. The players received a rigorous lecture on how to manage challenging situations, particularly those relating to spot-fixing and match-fixing, during their ongoing training camp in Lahore ahead of the huge event.

The players were shown a translated anti-corruption lecture from the International Cricket Council (ICC), which detailed how bookies may approach them through various channels, including social media platforms.The talk also went into detail about the case of Gulam Bodi, an Indian-born South African cricketer who was sentenced to five years in prison for corruption.

Following a recent rash of high-profile match-fixing cases, the International Sport Council (ICC) has stepped up its anti-corruption efforts to rid cricket of the threat of match-fixing. The move has made it more difficult for bookmakers to manoeuvre around players. As a result, they rely on social media channels to reach out to gamers, either directly or indirectly.The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has adopted a tougher approach against such acts since the infamous Lords incident.

The cricket board has jailed renowned domestic and international cricketers for failing to report an approach from bookies and fixers during the last five years. Apart from Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif, and Salman Butt, Sharjeel Khan, Shahzaib Hassan, Naved Latif, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Nawaz, Umar Akmal, and Zeeshan Malik have been penalised by the PCB for failing to notify a fixing offer at the domestic level.
