The Pakistan Super League 2022 is returning, and fans will be able to see their favorite players in action for the first time. What began as a little project spearheaded by the Pakistan Cricket Board and Najam Sethi has developed into a global event that has everyone on the edge of their seats. The sixth edition of the PSL is capturing the attention of cricket fans not only in Pakistan but also around the world. The Pakistan Super League’s six franchises have chosen their teams for this year’s tournament, which promises to be one of the greatest yet.

The PSL 2022 tournament will be staged in Pakistan once again, with all matches taking place in Lahore and Karachi. According to rumours, the 6th season of the PSL would feature new sites in Quetta and Peshawar, respectively, including Bugti Stadium and Arbab Niaz Stadium. Unforeseen situations, such as the COVID-19, posed problems for the locations to be used this time. Multan and Rawalpindi have also been ruled out of the event this year.

PSL 2022 Draft

The PSL 2022 draught took place on January 10th. The official dates for the tournament were revealed a few weeks before the start of the tournament, as is customary. In the Pakistan Super League 2022 draught pool, find out which players were retained by their franchises and which new international talents are destined to shine. The franchises were only allowed to keep a maximum of eight players, and the rules stipulated that each team’s roster be limited to 18 players.

PSL 2022 Draft Pick Order

Islamabad United, the two-time champions, were chosen first in the first round, followed by Multan Sultans. The defending champions, the Karachi Kings, were given the final choice, as is customary. The third choice was given to the Lahore Qalandars, who will be trying to go one step further and capture their first PSL title this season. Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators, both former champions, were given the fourth and fifth picks, respectively.

Draft Rules

All franchises were entitled to select at least three players from the Platinum, Diamond, Gold, and Silver categories, as well as two players from the Emerging and Supplementary categories. The wild card option was made available to PSL franchises in 2022. Franchises can choose a player from a diamond category to a platinum category, or from a gold category to a diamond category, and vice versa, using the wild card. Franchises were only allowed to employ this wild card option once during the draught. The following are the six franchises that will compete in the PSL in 2022:

Quetta Gladiators

The Quetta Gladiators have a high chance of winning the Pakistan Super League in 2022. On paper, the 2019 champions appear great with Chris Gayle, Tom Banton, Dale Steyn, and Faf du Plessis in their lineup. Quetta will be seeking to add to their trophy collection with a lot of other fascinating names.

Peshawar Zalmi

Peshawar Zalmi is one of the Pakistan Super League’s most popular teams. In 2017, Zalmi won the PSL. Zalmi’s pace department appears to be reduced this time around after the release of Hasan Ali, but they are a club known for their fighting spirit, and captain Wahab Riaz will be aiming to show off his leadership talents.

Islamabad United

Islamabad United is one of the best and most consistent teams in the Pakistan Super League. The only franchise to win the PSL twice is Islamabad United. Shadab Khan has proven to be a wise captain, and he will be aiming for the coveted PSL trophy in 2022.

Karachi Kings

In PSL 2020, the Kings defied the odds to win their first ever PSL tournament, defeating archrivals Lahore Qalandars. Karachi Kings are expected to defend their title this season, thanks to stars like Babar Azam and Mohammed Amir.

Lahore Qalandars

Lahore Qalandars have failed to reach the play-offs stage of the Pakistan Super League in all prior editions. Lahore Qalandars, on the other hand, offered fans optimism in PSL 2020 by reaching the finals for the first time in their history. In PSL 2022, fans have high hopes of their squad, and seasoned pros such as Mohammad Hafeez will be aiming to win the crown this time.

Multan Sultans

The Pakistan Cricket Board introduced a sixth team to the PSL in 2018, making it a six-team tournament. From the start, the Multan Sultans have been a fun addition to the tournament. The Sultans came close to reaching the PSL 2020 finals, but fell short. Schön Properties was the original owner of the squad. The Multan Sultan owners failed to pay their annual fee of US$5.2 million to PCB prior to the PSL 2019 draught, resulting in contract expiration. The team’s rights were won by Ali Khan Tareen and Taimoor Malik in 2018, however they were unable to compete in the 2019 PSL draught.

PSL 2022 Venues

Following the success of PSL 2020, the competition will return to Pakistan for its sixth edition. PCB has chosen Lahore and Karachi as the cities for PSL 2022. PCB had planned to showcase two additional cities this year, Quetta and Peshawar, but due to the COVID-19 situation and unfinished building work, both Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar and Bugti Stadium in Quetta would be unavailable.

PSL 2022 Schedule

The PSL 2022 will follow the same format as the previous year. Before the playoffs and the final, each team will face the other twice in the group stages. Due to the COVID-19 scenario, the opening ceremony for this year’s competition was taped in Pakistan and Turkey and televised before the first match.
