The first phase of the competition will be held at National Stadium Karachi, with 15 group stage matches, while the second phase will be staged in Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, with a total of 19 matches, including the PSL 2023 play-offs and final.
Due to the continuing pandemic, the event was partially played in Pakistan last year. The second half of the tournament was moved to the UAE. This time around, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to host the full PSL 7.
PSL Teams 2023
For the fifth edition of the league, there are six teams participating along with Multan Sultans who had new management take over last year and which is also the most expensive franchise of Pakistan Super League 2023. The PSL team 2023 will enjoy the home advantage this year and fans back home will be eagerly waiting to support their home team. The teams for PSL 2023 are as follows.
- Islamabad United
- Karachi Kings
- Quetta Gladiators
- Lahore Qalandars
- Peshawar Zalmi
- Multan Sultans
The PSL 2023 teams players list includes many foreign stars from England, Australia, South Africa, and other leading cricket nations who are going to play in Pakistan and enjoy the most passionate crowd support in Asian conditions and that is the reason cricket fans from Pakistan are waiting for PSL tickets eagerly so they don’t miss the change to see their favorite players play in front of them. The PSL 2023 team captain will be announced by the franchises close before the start of the much-awaited PSL 2023.
Quetta Gladiators
The Quetta Gladiators have a good chance of winning the Pakistan Super League in 2023. On paper, the 2019 champions look great with Chris Gayle, Tom Banton, Dale Steyn, and Faf du Plessis in their lineup. Quetta will be looking to add to their trophy cabinet with a host of other exciting titles.
Peshawar Zalmi
Peshawar Zalmi is one of the Pakistan Super League’s most popular teams. In 2017, Zalmi won the PSL. Zalmi’s speed department appears to be weakened this time around after the release of Hasan Ali, but they are a squad known for their fighting spirit, and captain Wahab Riaz will be looking to show off his leadership abilities.
Islamabad United
Islamabad United is one of the strongest and most reliable teams in the Pakistan Super League. The only franchise to win the PSL twice is Islamabad United. Shadab Khan has proven to be a wise captain, and he will be aiming for the prestigious PSL trophy in 2023.
Karachi Kings
In PSL 2020, the Kings defied the odds to win their first-ever PSL tournament, defeating archrivals Lahore Qalandars. Karachi Kings are expected to defend their title this season, thanks to players like Babar Azam and Mohammed Amir.
Lahore Qalandars
Lahore Qalandars have failed to reach the play-offs stage of the Pakistan Super League in all previous editions. The Lahore Qalandars, on the other hand, gave fans hope in PSL 2020 by reaching the finals for the first time in their history. In PSL 2023, fans have high expectations of their squad, and senior pros such as Mohammad Hafeez will be aiming to win the title this time.
Multan Sultans
The Pakistan Cricket Board appointed the sixth team to the PSL in 2018, rendering it a six-team competition. From the start, the Multan Sultans have been a fun addition to the tournament. The Sultans came close to reaching the PSL 2020 finals but fell short. Schön Properties was the original owner of the squad. The Multan Sultan owners refused to pay their annual fee of US$5.2 million to PCB prior to the PSL 2019 draught, resulting in contract expiration. The team’s rights were won by Ali Khan Tareen and Taimoor Malik in 2018, but they were unable to compete in the 2019 PSL draught. This year, they were dealt another setback when Ali Tareen left the team. They do, however, have a competent team, headed by Mohammad Rizwan, who will be looking to make an impression.
PSL 2023 Venues
Following the success of PSL 2020, the tournament will return to Pakistan for its sixth edition. PCB has chosen Lahore and Karachi as the cities for PSL 2023. PCB had intended to feature two additional cities this year, Quetta and Peshawar, but due to the COVID-19 crisis and unfinished construction work, both Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar and Bugti Stadium in Quetta will be unavailable.
PSL 2023 Schedule
The PSL 2023 will follow the same format as the previous year. Before the playoffs and the final, each team will play the other twice in the group stages. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the opening ceremony for this year’s tournament was filmed in Pakistan and Turkey and broadcast before the first match.
