Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batter, has been in sublime form over the last year, and his transformation in the shortest form of the game has been nothing short of amazing. Rizwan has piled on the runs in T20Is this year, breaking multiple batting records.
The 29-year-old scored another outstanding half-century against Namibia in the ongoing 2021 T20 World Cup, helping Pakistan reach the tournament’s semi-finals for the first time since 2012.

During his innings against Namibia, the tenacious batter set yet another batting record. He became the first player in T20I history to score more than 900 runs in a calendar year.
No other player has ever scored 748 runs in a single calendar year. If Rizwan maintains his excellent form, he may be able to break the 1,000-run barrier. Rizwan has also scored 1,651 runs in T20s this year, making him the second-highest run-scorer in the format in a single year. Rizwan overtook fellow opener Babar Azam and Indian captain Virat Kohli, who had previously scored 1,607 and 1,614 runs in a calendar year, respectively.
The opening batter is only four runs away from breaking the T20s record for most runs in a year.
Chris Gayle, a West Indian legend, currently holds the record with 1,665 runs in 2015. With Pakistan scheduled to play at least two more T20 World Cup matches, Rizwan has a good chance of breaking the record.
Rizwan also surpassed Virat Kohli in terms of the T20I batting average (minimum 1,000 runs). Rizwan’s unbeaten 79 against Namibia raised his career average to 52.66, while Kohli’s T20I average is 52.01.
