Russia’s first player in the FedEx ATP rankings in over two decades is Daniil Medvedev, second in rank, with Andrey Rublev at the top of the men’s game this week.
The last time in September 2002, two Russian men were in second and fourth place in the top five, respectively, were Marat Safin and Yevgeny Kafelnikov. 20-time Grand Champion, Roger Federer had yet to win his first Slam while Carlos Alcaraz was only to be born. Slam #NextGenATP Spaniard.

The successes of Rublev, U.S. Open Champion Medvedev; Olympic silver medallist Karen Khachanov; World No. 25 Aslan Kara have been dominated again by Russian tennis.

“We all practise in various areas and finally we have all discovered a way to do this. Until 15, all of us didn’t have the same coach. We had everything our own way, and for us it worked out.”
Since the first breach of the Top 10 in October last year, Rublev, like Medvedeva, had a huge year. After his fourth win in Rotterdam, ATP 500, the 23-year-old was in Monte-Carlo and Cincinnati for the ATP Masters 1000 final.
These achievements were important for the break into the top five of Rublev, with the goal of staying there and finishing off the high season in 2021 in Turin, which will qualify for the Nitto ATP final.

Tennis in Russia has been a great deal over the last three years, but I think it will double even now after it won a major. There will be more people and even more parents bringing children to tennis.
