Pakistan’s superstar left-arm pacer, Shaheen Afridi, is rumored to be named the new captain of Lahore Qalandars’ Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise for the seventh edition of the competition. The 21-year-old is expected to replace Sohail Akhtar, whose position in the squad will be tested in the coming season.

According to sources, Shaheen will be the likely appointment for the upcoming season, despite the fact that the move has not yet been made official by Lahore Qalandars.

In the previous edition of the tournament, Shaheen was named vice-captain of the team. This will be Shaheen’s first stint as a professional cricket captain.

The fiery left-arm pacer joined Lahore Qalandars in the third edition of the tournament and has been the franchise’s standout performer since then. He is currently the franchise’s leading wicket-taker, and he is the tournament’s seventh-highest wicket-taker overall. In the 37 games he has played in the competition, Shaheen has taken 50 wickets at an average of 21.20 and an economy rate of 7.65.

Shaheen is widely regarded as one of the best bowlers in the world in all three formats, and his recent performances for both Pakistan and the Lahore Qalandars have been sublime.

Sohail Akhtar’s two-year captaincy reign will come to an end with Shaheen’s appointment. Sohail is Lahore’s most successful captain in PSL history, having led the team to their only final in PSL 5.
