After an outstanding spell in the ongoing first Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Pakistan’s ace left-arm pacer, Shaheen Afridi, has become the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket in 2021. As Pakistan dismissed Bangladesh for 157 in their second innings, Shaheen picked up a five-wicket haul. This was Shaheen’s fourth five-wicket haul in four Tests.
The 21-year-old has 44 wickets so far this calendar year, surpassing Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has 42 wickets in the current calendar year. In 2021, Shaheen has 44 wickets at an average of 17.45 in 15 innings, while Ashwin has 42 wickets at an average of 18.71 in 14 innings. Hasan Ali, Shaheen’s fast bowling partner, is currently the third-highest wicket-taker in the calendar year, with 39 wickets. The fiery left-arm pacer has established himself as one of the world’s best fast bowlers. He has been in sensational form in all three formats over the last year, taking 70 wickets at an average of 23.68 in all three formats in 2021.
