T20 World Cup ICC suspends English umpire for breaching bio-secure protocols

Umpire in English Michael Gough was suspended and placed in isolation for six days after breaching the COVID-19 bio-secure bubble.

“Due to a breach of the event bio-security protocols, the Bio-Security Advisory Committee has instructed umpire Michael Gough to isolate for six days,” an International Cricket Council (ICC) spokesperson confirmed.

According to media reports, the 41-year-old former first-class cricketer was replaced by Marais Erasmus in New Zealand’s match against India.

While Gough is currently isolated, the international council is looking into the matter and conducting additional investigations.
According to the council’s rules, everyone — including the players, umpires, and their families — must stay within the bubble, and if they leave the bubble environments created at hotels and cricket grounds, they must isolate themselves.
